Favourite Finds: Mad About Maps
I’ve always been fond of maps. Maybe it’s the sweet promise of the undiscovered, of exotic lands and experiences yet to be tasted. I have stacks of vintage atlases, framed maps, war maps, kids’ maps, and metro maps. Over the past few days I’ve been creating christmas decorations for a retail window display of little ‘globes’ made from recycled vintage atlas pages. As I cut hundreds of tiny discs from its musty pages I find myself mesmorised by the myriad of blue, green, and brown hues, and tiny vessels charting the highways and byways of foreign lands.
Here is a round-up of a few of my favourite contemporary maps, some practical, some whimsical, and others which are simply beautiful. With Christmas just around the corner, there could be something here for that special someone.
